Tucano Advanced Mission Planning Aid
In 2008 the UK Royal Air Force issued a request for proposals to create a training package that would assist aircrew in the use of the recently introduced Tucano Advanced Mission Planning Aid (TAMPA) during the basic fast jet flying training phase.
Pilotwise responded with a proposal to provide a recordable TAMPA computer based training capability.
TAMPA is based on Adobe Director and follows the conventional mission planning cycle enabling the creation of sortie specific printed maps and imagery. These provide the information required to safely fly a sortie including heading, altitude, timing, communications and targeting.
The Pilotwise training package leads the student through:
- System introduction
- Logging on and set-up
- Low-level route planning
- Overlays and additional information
- High-level route planning
- Target planning
- File saving, export and printing
- Advanced TAMPA functions
- Revision exercises
Our proposal was accepted and the contract was awarded in November 2008, with courseware delivered and accepted by end of March 2009. The programme was updated to meet revised specifications for the introduction of the Defence Information Infrastructure (DII) and remains in service.
